North Carolina Holiday Flotilla - Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina

This stunningly beautiful happening is something that will have even the most serious of you ohhhing, and ahhing.  The North Carolina Holiday Flotilla is a annual event at Wrightsville Beach, organized to provide the area with the beauty of the ships and boats covered in lights to celebrate the season.

If you don't think this is an easy place to get to you are wrong.  Wrightsville Beach is incredibly easy to get to. A quick glance at a coastal NC map shows Wrightsville Beach near the end of Interstate 40. This, along with an international airport in neighboring Wilmington, means that Wrightsville Beach, NC is the most accessible beach on the NC coast.

Since 1983 the community volunteers of the area fill the weekend with illuminated ships that glimmer on the Intracoastal.  There are activities such as games for the kids in the Park where regardless of your age, be a kid and enjoy the fun at a Day in the Park.  There will be fireworks for you to enjoy, music for you to listen to, an opportunity to purchase some holiday gifts followed by an elegant night of dining and dancing.  The whole event is a fundraiser for local charities and local beach renourishment/beautification projects.

This is truly a "Must See" in North Carolina.  It was started to try to extend the beach tourist season has now grown into an event that draws thousands of people every year for the beginning of the holiday season.  Held in November (dates vary so check with the contact at the end of this article) you will want to make plans to attend.

Included in the event is a car show with a variety of different cars for you to enjoy.  The members of the car clubs showcase their restored classic vehicles at these shows.  There is little that you won't be able to find at the car show in the area of unique, beautiful and classic cars.

There will be vendors with fabulous arts and crafts for you to see if there is something that will be perfect for the holiday season.  There will also be the Light Up the Night Holiday decorations' contest featuring prizes for homes, condos, businesses, and docks that are judged to see who can claim to be the best for the season. 

You can participate in the 5K Run/Loop Walk at the park.  This Wrightsville Beach Loop 5K follows side walk from the Town Park, around the loop, with a quick jaunt down N. Channel Drive and back. The Walk follows the Loop - Certified Course - Tag Timed by Brunswick Timing.

Of course the signature event is the illuminated boat parade capped off with a spectacular fireworks display.
