Lost Colony Children's Theatre - Roanoke Island, North Carolina

Catch a Show at the Lost Colony Children's Theatre. The first English settlement in the New World was lost to history, and its disappearance is still very much a mystery. The colony was established on Roanoke Island, but life was very hard for the settlers. Food was scarce and there were the hostile native people with whom they had to contend and compete with for resources.

In 1587, the town's governor, John White, returned to England for supplies, and when he came back to the New World in 1590, the people of the colony had all vanished. The only thing they found was the word "CROTOAN" carved on a post. Their disappearance is still one of the biggest mysteries in the world.

Today, however, many people come to Roanoke Island for a little relaxation and fun, and they always find plenty to keep them occupied. The little town of Manteo even has a theatre production called The Lost Colony, which is quite famous and has attracted many notable actors over the years.

If you have children, you won't want to miss the Lost Colony Children's Theatre and their production of the classic tale Sleeping Beauty. This is actually a retelling of the tale that takes place during the 1980s. It features great acting, great music, and a fresh take on the timeless tale.

The production also has a "splash zone," and if you want to cool off after a hot summer afternoon then this is where you will want to be sitting! Before the show starts, there are also plenty of fun activities for the kids and parents alike. Face painting, balloon animals, and games are just a portion of the fun families will find at the Lost Colony Children's Theatre.

The productions put on by the Children's Theatre are certainly fun, and everyone who has children should make sure to stop by for one of the shows.

In addition to the theatre, Manteo has quite a bit more to offer the visitor. You can visit an aquarium, a park, the waterfront boardwalk, the town of Manteo, and a whole lot more. It is a beautiful place and deserves to be explored. There are several hotel options in the Roanoke area on HotelsCombined.com.
